Here's an explanation of the Cancel and Delete options:
- Any deleted Form I-9 may be recovered (undeleted) by pressing the Delete button again. It can be used at any time after the Form I-9 has been deleted.
- The Delete button is different from the Cancel button, which is permanent and cannot be un-cancelled. Note that when an I-9 is cancelled, it can only be fixed by aligning a new I-9 only process for the candidate.
- The Cancel button’s purpose is to archive (and therefore save) an incomplete Form I-9 so that you have something on file instead of nothing (for example, if a new-hire bails on the job and quits before the Form I-9 is completed). This is helpful because Federal auditors are lenient on partial records over no records, and Form I-9 Compliance's system is designed to only allow completed Form I-9’s to be archived. The cancel button is a work-around.
