Problem: The candidate is unable to submit their I-9 Form due to an incorrect Alien Number being entered. This may be due to the fact they are including the "A" or the number is less than 9 digits.
For example:
Resolution: If your A-Number is fewer than nine digits, insert a zero before the first digit to create a nine-digit number. For example, “12345678” would become “012345678.”
**Important note: The candidate will receive the following error message if they fail to check one of the preparer/translator boxes even if they have correctly entered the Alien Registration number. The bottom message can be missed easily while onboarding on a phone or even a computer if the candidate does not scroll down enough to see the details of the error.
Additional Information: “A” number is short for Alien Registration Number. It is a unique seven-, eight- or nine-digit number assigned to a non-citizen. The 9-digit USCIS number listed on permanent resident green cards issued after May 10, 2010, is the same as the A-number. The A-number can also be found on the back of green cards.
