Colorado Form W-4 removed for 2022
Form Title: Employee's Withholding Certificate
SPF Form ID: CO101
Effective 1 January 2022, the Colorado Form W-4 (CO101) has been removed from both Guided Mode and Choose Mode. Employees may complete the optional Form DR 0004 (introduced in the 2021-R12b release) to make any changes to the default Colorado withholding calculation, which is derived from the federal Form W-4 (W4101).
Per communication with the Colorado Office of Tax Policy Analysis, employees should not be offered a second W-4 for Colorado withholding. The federal W-4 provides the default Colorado calculation; starting January 1, 2022, employees can only adjust that calculation by completing the DR 0004.
The DR 0004 itself remains optional for employees – if they decide to not complete it, then the default calculation based on the federal W-4 must be used.
